Pockets doors are the ultimate solution for your next development, at Enigma we offer total support from concept to completion to make sure you get the most out of your stylish pocket doors.

Fire Ratings

Understanding the fire rating standards can be a confusing area for many developers, so that’s why at Enigma we are always here to help and educate on these difficult areas. We are able to help you understand the different standards and send over any certificates you may need. The fire-rated sliding doors have been specially designed so that they can provide fire resistance to help slow the spread of fire and smoke between different areas of a building. Fire-rated pocket doors are tested and certified to withstand fire for a certain duration, typically ranging from 20 minutes to 3 hours. These ratings will indicate how long the sliding pocket door can resist the spread of flames and heat.

Sliding pocket doors are available in fire-rated versions, which typically have a higher fire resistance rating than standard sliding doors being set into the wall. This applies for both single and double pocket doors. Our fire doors have been designed to meet fire safety standards and tested to 30 minutes. An example of our fire rated pocket doors can be seen at the Marylebone Square project, a stunning residential building.

Where you will see single and double pocket doors?

The decision to use single or double pocket doors largely depends on the function, space, and aesthetic you’re aiming for. Single and double pocket are often used in different areas throughout a development as the single pocket doors functionality are best used in other areas compared to double pocket doors. Single pocket doors will often be used for ensuites or bedrooms as they are a fantastic option for linking confined spaces to maximise the floor space as much as possible. A great example of these is at 48 Carey Street.

On the other hand, double pocket doors would be used more in hotels and kitchens as they would effectively divide large spaces to make them more open. The Old War Office is a prestigious redevelopment, and is a great example to show how double doors open up a space and still give it an elegant look.

What to consider when using double pocket doors

When using double pocket doors in your development, there are a couple factors to be considered to ensure the functionality, aesthetics and ease of use runs smoothly.

Firstly, is there enough room for the sliding door to be installed into the wall, double pockets doors will take up more room than single. Also remember to factor in the door width as this is always bigger as well. To ensure the door runs smoothly, make sure you are not choosing poor quality hardware as this could lead to the door damaging, sticking, or rattling. If your door is rumbling, find out how to fix it here. Most doors will often slam when shutting them, so if you want to prevent that make sure to choose a soft close option as this will make the door shut gently.

Often with double pocket doors, customers would like to be able to lock it as it will give more privacy. One thing to remember is if the door is fire rated make sure the locks are too because if they are not, this will make the door non-fire rated. Installing them may be harder than a single pocket door, so it is important to get a professional to fit it, so there are no problems later down the line.
